Permission Granted
We are delighted to share with you the news that, following An Bord Pleanala’s assessment of the case, planning permission has been granted for the construction of an office and hotel development to be provided in 2 no. blocks at Jacob’s Island.
- The hotel will contain 165 no. bedrooms, meeting rooms, bar/restaurant, cafe and back of house facilities in a 1-storey to 10-storey over basement building.
The hotel is in a key location, its tower announcing the entrance to Jacob’s Island on the N40, and its public amenity (café, lounges and restaurant) providing animation and activity onto a plaza to its south west and south east.
- The office building (10,632 sqm GFA) will provide 8,361 sqm net office floor area and ancillary staff facilities over 7-storeys. The office block is designed to maximise future flexibility of lease. At the ground floor level, a generous entrance lobby (and a 4 storey high atrium) allows for a controllable single entrance point. This will provide animation along the Avenue.
- This development will accommodate over 1,200 employees and bring increased mixed-use to Jacobs Island.
McCarthy Developments Managing Director, Dr. Tom McCarthy, said, “We are delighted to move forward with the next phase of the Jacobs Island Master Plan, championed by McCarthy Developments over the last 20 years. This new phase of development has significant impact for Cork’s economic development, providing a new hotel for business and leisure visitors as well as substantial office accommodation required to fuel further investment and create significant employment in the Cork Region.”
Progress Update
McCarthy Developments were proud to welcome An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and the Housing Minister James Browne to officially open the Crawford Centre, the first phase of a two part project delivering 218 homes. Phase one includes 69 social homes, a creche and retail units.
